Abstract：To improve the width measurement precision, the on-line automatic measurement system was installed in front of roughing mill in medium and heavy plate mill on 2500 production line of Jinan Steel. The composition of the system mainly consists of a CCD device, video automatic gain controller, image acquisition card, industrial control compute, etc. After the application of the system, it could measure the width of plate steel in the process of rolling at any time, and could adjust the reduction of mill rolling easily at any time, it improved the qualified rate of length to width scale plate. The finished cutting edge residue quantity was reduced by 4 mm, and reduced the revision rate of 0.02%products.
