怀念本刊英文顾问肖熹光教授 (本刊编辑部)

摘要：肖熹光教授于1921年12月11日生于湖南省,在1978年前后,从事科技英语的教学和文学翻译与著述,在1992-1993年任本刊英语译审和顾问.1999年11月21日在北京病逝. In Memory of Professor Xiao Xi-Guang Professor Xiao Xi-Guang, a senior translator, English educator, writer, and English reviewer of our Journal between 1992 and 1993. He died of cancer on Nov.21, 1999 in hospital of Beijing. We express sincere condolences to his family and relatives. Professor Xiao was born on 11 of December 1921 in the Longhui County of Hunan Province. After graduation from the National Central University of Politics in Chongqing, 1946, he went to study as a PhD student in the School of Law, in the University of Paris. Upon his return to the New Clina in 1949, he first worked for two years as a research fellow in the Central Northeast Bank of Clina. He started his teaching career with the Beijing Institute of Economics and Finance in 1952. He became a professor of English education in the Institute of Geology, State Seismological Bureau in 1978, and worked there until his retirement in 1987. He had co-authors published three popular books in studying English as a secondary language, and the book entitled "Practical English Conversations for People Going Overseas" was adapted by both the Beijing People's Radio Station as a standard text book for English education programs. Professor Xiao carried a dream since his time in Paris, that to translate the complete drama series by one of the greatest writers, Moliere, into Chinese. After half a century of endless efforts, often in very difficult conditions, the dream was finally fulfilled in early I999, seven years after his cancer operation, when a four-volume translation was published by the Chinese Culture and Art Press. He had also published one novel, and wrote another novel and a translation volume of western poems being published. We remember Prof. Xiao for his extremely strong will in both achieving in academic goals and in fighting against his unfortunate illness, for maintaining his honesty despite the abnormal social environment, he had to face with during the prime time of his life, and for his deep love of truth, of his colleagues and students, and of life in general.(By the Editorial office of CT Theory and Applications)
