The pathogen is (Shi) Nocardia fish, belonging to the order Actinomycetales, genus Nocardia. It is an aerobic Gram-positive bacterium with weak acid-fastness, appearing as long, branched filaments that often break into rod-shaped to spherical bodies, without motility and no spores. The diameter of the bacterial body is 0.2-1 micrometer, length 2-5 micrometers, and the filamentous body is 10-50 micrometers (Figure 1).
