Effect of Open-Orifice and Intelligence-Enhancing Acupuncture Combined with Clozapine on Patients with Schizophrenia
Abstract:Objective: To explore the effect of open-orifice and intelligence-enhancing acupuncture combined with clozapine in the treatment of patients with schizophrenia (SZ). Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 110 SZ patients admitted to Xiamen Xianyue Hospital (from January 2021 to December 2023). The patients were divided into two groups according to the treatment regimen: the control group (55 cases, treated with clozapine) and the acupuncture group (55 cases, treated with open-orifice and intelligence-enhancing acupuncture combined with clozapine). The clinical efficacy, Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) scores, Montreal Cognitive Assessment Battery (MCCB) scores, and neurophysiological indicators were compared between the two groups. Results: The clinical efficacy of the acupuncture group (94.55%) was higher than that of the control group (81.82%) (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the acupuncture group showed lower scores in negative symptoms, positive symptoms, general psychopathology, and total PANSS scores after treatment (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the acupuncture group had higher scores in social cognition-emotional management (SC), processing speed-pursuit test (TMT), attention/awareness-continuous performance test (CPT-IP), and reasoning and problem-solving ability-maze test (MAZES) on the MCCB scale after treatment (P < 0.05). After treatment, the acupuncture group had larger P300 amplitude and N2-P3 amplitude ratio, and shorter P300 latency and N2-P3 latency compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The combination of open-orifice and intelligence-enhancing acupuncture with clozapine has a good therapeutic effect on SZ patients, which can significantly improve clinical symptoms, cognitive function, and neurophysiological indicators.
