Clinical Observation of Warm Acupuncture in the Treatment of Lumbar Disc Herniation
Abstract:Objective: To investigate the effect of warm acupuncture in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Methods: A total of 100 patients with LDH who were treated at Hengyang City TCM Hospital from January 2022 to April 2023 were selected as the study subjects. They were randomly divided into a control group (50 cases) and an observation group (50 cases) using a random number table method. The control group received acupoint injection at the Huan Tiao point and conventional treatment, while the observation group received additional warm acupuncture treatment. The clinical efficacy, incidence of adverse reactions, and changes in lower back and leg pain levels and lumbar function before and after treatment were observed and compared between the two groups. Results: The effective rate of treatment in the observation group was 96.00%, which was higher than that of the control group (82.00%) (P < 0.05). After 4 weeks of treatment, the visual analog scale (VAS) scores for lower back and leg pain in both groups were lower than those before treatment, and the observation group had lower scores than the control group (P < 0.05). After 4 weeks of treatment, the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scores for each dimension in both groups were higher than those before treatment, and the observation group had higher scores than the control group (P < 0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group was 12.00%, while it was 10.00% in the control group. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Adding warm acupuncture treatment to acupoint injection at the Huan Tiao point and conventional treatment can further improve clinical efficacy, relieve low back and leg pain, promote recovery of lumbar function, and has a high level of safety.
