Study on the Medication Patterns of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Gastrointestinal Dysfunction in Sepsis
Abstract:Objective: To retrieve articles on the treatment of gastrointestinal dysfunction in sepsis with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in modern literature over the past 10 years, and to summarize the characteristics and patterns of TCM medication. Methods: By organizing the literature, the use of TCM in 71 eligible articles on gastrointestinal dysfunction in sepsis was classified, and descriptive statistics were performed using statistical software. Results: Analysis by statistical software showed that tonifying drugs were used most frequently in the treatment of gastrointestinal dysfunction in sepsis, followed by heat-clearing drugs, purgative drugs, and qi-regulating drugs. The single herbs with higher frequency of use were rhubarb, licorice, fructus aurantii, magnolia bark, sodium sulfate, and atractylodes. Conclusion: Acute gastrointestinal dysfunction in sepsis mostly belongs to the syndrome of deficiency at the root and excess at the surface. Insufficiency of vital energy makes it easy to be infected by internal and external pathogenic factors; therefore, in clinical practice, attention should be paid to the application of herbs that strengthen the body's vital energy and clear turbidity from the bowels.
