Effect of Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndrome Differentiation and Treatment on Patients with Cerebrovascular and Cardiovascular Diseases in the Elderly
Abstract:Objective: To explore the effect of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation and treatment on patients with cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases in the elderly. Methods: A total of 90 elderly patients with cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases admitted to Xinyang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from July 2023 to July 2024 were selected as the study subjects. They were divided into a conventional Western medicine treatment group and a traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation and treatment group according to the treatment method, with 45 cases in each group. The conventional Western medicine treatment group received routine Western medicine treatment, while the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation and treatment group received traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation and treatment on top of the conventional Western medicine treatment. The two groups were compared in terms of TCM syndrome scores, quality of life, clinical efficacy, fall incidence, treatment compliance, and treatment satisfaction. Results: After treatment, the scores for dizziness, palpitations, chest tightness, shortness of breath, nausea and vomiting, facial deviation, limb numbness, and limb weakness in the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation and treatment group were lower than those in the conventional Western medicine treatment group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After treatment, the scores for physical pain, physical function, role limitations due to physical health, energy, role limitations due to emotional problems, mental health, general health status, and social functioning in the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation and treatment group were higher than those in the conventional Western medicine treatment group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). The total effective rate of treatment in the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation and treatment group (95.56%) was higher than that in the conventional Western medicine treatment group (82.22%), with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). The total fall incidence in the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation and treatment group (2.22%) was lower than that in the conventional Western medicine treatment group (17.78%), with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). The treatment compliance of the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation and treatment group in terms of standardized medication, regular作息, reasonable diet, and aerobic exercise was higher than that of the conventional Western medicine treatment group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). The overall satisfaction rate of treatment in the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation and treatment group (97.78%) was higher than that in the conventional Western medicine treatment group (82.22%), with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation and treatment can effectively relieve symptoms in elderly patients with cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases, improve their quality of life, and has better clinical treatment effects than conventional Western medicine treatment. It can also reduce the incidence of falls and improve treatment compliance and patient satisfaction.
