Application Effect of Clearing Heat and Activating Blood Circulation Method in Postoperative Fever of Lumbar Disc Herniation
Abstract:Objective: To investigate the application effect of clearing heat and activating blood circulation method in postoperative fever of lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Methods: A total of 78 LDH patients admitted to Henan Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2023 to December 2023 were selected as the study subjects. They were randomly divided into a conventional group and a TCM group according to the random number table method, with 39 cases in each group. The conventional group received conventional Western medicine and physical cooling treatment after surgery, while the TCM group received additional clearing heat and activating blood circulation treatment on top of the conventional group's treatment. The clinical efficacy, body temperature, time to fever reduction onset, time to normal body temperature recovery, TCM syndrome scores, and quality of life were compared between the two groups. Results: The total effective rate of the TCM group (97.44%) was higher than that of the conventional group (76.92%), with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). After treatment at 3 hours, 24 hours, and 72 hours, the body temperature of the TCM group was lower than that of the conventional group, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). The time to fever reduction onset and the time to normal body temperature recovery in the TCM group were shorter than those in the conventional group, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). After treatment, the scores for fever, irritability with night sweats, five palms and soles heat, and insomnia with frequent dreams were lower than before treatment in both groups, and the TCM group was lower than the conventional group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After treatment, the scores for psychological function, social function, physical function, and material life were higher than before treatment in both groups, and the TCM group was higher than the conventional group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The clearing heat and activating blood circulation method applied in postoperative fever patients with LDH can improve clinical efficacy, rapidly reduce body temperature, shorten the time to fever reduction onset and the time to normal body temperature recovery, which is beneficial for improving clinical symptoms and enhancing the quality of life of patients.
