Study on the Treatment of Patients with Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (AECOPD) with Modified Xiaqinglong Decoction Combined with Western Medicine
Abstract:Objective: To investigate the therapeutic effect of modified Xiaqinglong decoction combined with diprophylline and budesonide on patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). Methods: A total of 92 patients with AECOPD admitted to Anyang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from February 2022 to July 2024 were selected as the study subjects and randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, each with 46 cases. Both groups received budesonide treatment after admission. The control group was treated with diprophylline, while the observation group received modified Xiaqinglong decoction in addition to the treatment of the control group. The clinical symptom disappearance time, pulmonary function, serum or peripheral blood inflammatory factor levels, health status, and related symptom scores before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results: The disappearance times of wheezing, cough, fatigue, and sputum production in the observation group were shorter than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After treatment, the maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV), mid-expiratory flow (MMEF), forced expiratory volume in the first second as a percentage of predicted value (FEV1%pred), and the Cough and Sputum Assessment Questionnaire (CASA-Q) scores of the observation group were higher than those of the control group, while the serum C-reactive protein (CRP) level, peripheral blood white blood cell count (WBC), neutrophil percentage (NE%), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Assessment Test (CAT) score, and modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) dyspnea scale score were lower than those of the control group. All these differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Modified Xiaqinglong decoction combined with diprophylline and budesonide can shorten the disappearance time of clinical symptoms in patients with AECOPD, enhance lung function, inhibit inflammatory responses, improve health status, alleviate cough and sputum symptoms, and reduce dyspnea.
