Effect of Qingfei Pingchuan Decoction Combined with Interferon on Immune Function in Children with Respiratory Syncytial Virus Pneumonia (Phlegm-Heat Obstructing the Lungs Syndrome)
Abstract:Objective: To analyze the effect of Qingfei Pingchuan Decoction combined with interferon in the treatment of respiratory syncytial virus pneumonia (RSVP) in children (phlegm-heat obstructing the lungs syndrome), as well as its impact on immune function. Methods: A total of 120 cases of children with RSVP admitted to Luohuo City Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2023 to April 2025 were selected as the study subjects and randomly divided into a conventional group (conventional treatment combined with interferon) and a combination group (Qingfei Pingchuan Decoction combined with interferon on top of conventional treatment), with 60 cases in each group. The clinical signs and symptom resolution time, TCM syndrome scores before and after treatment, pulmonary function and tidal breathing function, laboratory indicators [inflammatory factor levels and T cell subsets], absorption of chest X-ray in pneumonia, blood gas parameters, clinical efficacy, and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results: The duration of clinical signs and symptoms in the combination group was shorter than that in the conventional group. After treatment, the TCM syndrome scores, PCRAES scores, respiratory rate (RR), peripheral blood CD8+ levels, PaCO2, serum CRP, IL-6, TNF-α levels in the combination group were lower than those in the conventional group, while SaO2, PaO2, peripheral blood CD3+ and CD4+ levels, TPEF/TE ratio, VPEF/VE ratio, VT/kg, FEV1, PEF, FEV1/FVC ratio, and overall clinical effectiveness were higher in the combination group. All differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the total incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Qingfei Pingchuan Decoction combined with interferon is effective and safe for the treatment of pediatric RSVP (phlegm-heat obstructing the lungs syndrome), which can effectively reduce inflammatory response, improve lung function, and does not increase adverse reactions, thereby enhancing clinical efficacy.
