Clinical Efficacy of Shufeng Zhibi Decoction in the Treatment of Cough Variant Asthma with Wind Excess and Spasm Syndrome
Abstract:Objective: To explore the clinical efficacy of Shufeng Zhibi Decoction in the treatment of cough variant asthma (CVA) with wind excess and spasm syndrome. Methods: A total of 96 patients with CVA and wind excess and spasm syndrome treated at the Huzhai Street Community Health Service Center in Yiwu City from April 2024 to April 2025 were selected as the study subjects and randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group, with 48 cases in each group. The control group received beclomethasone/fluticasone inhalation powder, while the experimental group received additional Shufeng Zhibi Decoction treatment. The clinical efficacy, severity of cough, TCM syndrome scores, pulmonary function, peripheral blood eosinophil (EOS) levels, quality of life for cough, and treatment safety were compared between the two groups. Results: The total effective rate of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). After treatment, the Cough Evaluation Test (CET) score, TCM syndrome score, and peripheral blood EOS level of the experimental group were lower than those of the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After treatment, the peak expiratory flow (PEF), forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV1), and FEV1/FVC ratio of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After treatment, the Leicester Cough Questionnaire (LCQ) score of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the overall incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Shufeng Zhibi Decoction shows good efficacy in treating CVA, can further reduce the severity of cough, improve lung function, enhance quality of life, and has good safety.
