Effect of Modified Mahuang Xingren Shigan Decoction Combined with Azithromycin on Clinical Efficacy and Serum Inflammatory Factor Levels in Children with Mycoplasma Pneumoniae Pneumonia with Phlegm-Heat Obstructing the Lungs Syndrome
Abstract:Objective: To analyze the effects of modified Mahuang Xingren Shigan Decoction combined with azithromycin on pulmonary function, serum inflammatory factor levels, and clinical efficacy in children with mycoplasma pneumonia (MP) with phlegm-heat obstructing the lungs syndrome. Methods: A total of 186 children with MP phlegm-heat obstructing the lungs syndrome who were treated at Xinyang City Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from March 2023 to March 2025 were selected as the study subjects and randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, with 93 cases in each group. The control group received azithromycin treatment, while the observation group received modified Mahuang Xingren Shigan Decoction on top of the control group's treatment. The clinical efficacy, TCM syndrome scores, tidal breathing pulmonary function, serum inflammatory factor levels, and adverse reactions of the two groups were compared before and after treatment. Results: The total effective rate of treatment in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). After treatment, the syndrome scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). After treatment, the respiratory rate (RR) of the observation group was lower than that of the control group, while the tidal volume (TV) and peak expiratory flow/forced vital capacity ratio (VPEF/VE) were higher than those of the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After treatment, the serum levels of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) and monocyte chemoattractant protein-4 (MCP-4) in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the overall incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Modified Mahuang Xingren Shigan Decoction combined with azithromycin shows significant clinical efficacy in treating children with MP phlegm-heat obstructing the lungs syndrome, effectively alleviating symptoms, improving tidal breathing pulmonary function, and inhibiting inflammatory responses without increasing adverse reactions.
