Effect of Warm Acupuncture Combined with Duhuo Jisheng Decoction on Lumbar Function in Patients with Lumbar Disc Herniation of the Cold-Damp Bi Syndrome Type

Abstract：Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy of warm acupuncture combined with Duhuo Jisheng Decoction in treating lumbar disc herniation (LDH) of the cold-damp bi syndrome type. Methods: A total of 82 patients with LDH admitted to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from December 2021 to December 2024 were selected and randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, each with 41 cases. Both groups received lumbar traction therapy. The control group received warm acupuncture treatment, while the observation group received Duhuo Jisheng Decoction treatment in addition to the treatment of the control group. The clinical efficacy, TCM syndrome scores, pain levels, lumbar function, and serum indicators were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results: The total effective rate of the observation group was 95.12%, which was higher than that of the control group (80.49%), with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). After treatment, the TCM syndrome scores of both groups were lower than those before treatment, and the observation group had lower scores than the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). After treatment, the VAS scores of both groups were lower than those before treatment, and the observation group had lower scores than the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). After treatment, the JOA scores of both groups were higher than those before treatment, and the observation group had higher scores than the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of serum prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and leukotriene B4 (LTB4) in both groups were lower than those before treatment, and the observation group had lower levels than the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion: Warm acupuncture combined with Duhuo Jisheng Decoction can enhance the clinical efficacy, relieve clinical symptoms, reduce pain, promote recovery of lumbar function, and improve serum indicators in patients with LDH.
