Protective effect of Zhitangshu on tissue of type 2 diabetes rats to peroxidation injury
Abstract:AIM:To observe the protective effect of Zhitangshu on tissue of type 2 diabetes rats to peroxidation injury. METHODS:Rat model of type 2 diabetes was established by abdominal injection of small dosage of streptozotocin combined with high calorie feeding.Metformin, gliclazide and Zhitangshu in different dosages were respectively perfused into stomach for 9 weeks and healthy rats were used as control.Levels of blood glucose,blood- lipid and blood insulin and other indexes were detected.Thereafter, rats were sacrificed and the content of malonic aldehyde(MDA) and activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD) in heart, liver, pancreas and brain were measured. RESULTS:Zhitangshu,Metformin and gliclazide could significantly reduce MDA content and increase SOD activity in above tissue(P< 0.05 or P< 0.01 in model group. The effect of Zhitangshu in a large dosage in reducing liver MDA was superior to that of gliclazide(P< 0.05) and the effect of Zhi tangshu in reducing pancreas MDA was superior to that of small dosage group(P< 0.01).There were no significant differences between other groups in MDA contents and activities in tissue(P >0.05),suggesting that Zhitangshu had the same protective effect as Metformin and gliclazide on tissues to peroxidization injury. CONCLUSION:Zhitangshu has significant protective effect on tissue of type 2 diabetes rats to peroxidation injury.
