Rescue of a Patient with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia Combined with Subdural Hematoma and Cerebral Herniation Using Minimally Invasive Drainage of Subdural Hematoma: A Case Report
Abstract:Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a special subtype of acute myeloid leukemia. It was previously the most dangerous subtype of leukemia, but the application of retinoic acid and arsenic agents has made it the most curable type of acute leukemia. However, in the early stages of diagnosis, APL is prone to coagulation dysfunction and bleeding, especially when a large amount of intracranial hemorrhage leads to cerebral herniation, which lacks effective treatment measures and is the most common cause of early death in APL. This study reports a case of a middle-aged female patient with APL combined with subdural hematoma and cerebral herniation who was successfully rescued through minimally invasive drainage of subdural hematoma, all-trans-retinoic acid combined with arsenic agent induction differentiation, and control of central nervous system leukemia, using comprehensive measures in the hematology intensive care unit, achieving disease-free survival. This case can provide reference for clinical physicians.
