Global Analysis of the Current Situation of Maternal Mortality Caused by Cardiac Disease During Pregnancy and Corresponding Strategies
Abstract:Cardiac disease during pregnancy refers to heart disease that occurs during pregnancy, including pre-existing heart disease and heart disease that develops after pregnancy [1]. Currently, this condition has become one of the main causes of maternal mortality in developed countries and regions, posing a significant threat to the health of mothers and infants. During pregnancy, the mother undergoes significant physiological adaptive changes, including increased blood volume, elevated cardiac output, and reduced peripheral vascular resistance [2]. These physiological changes may exacerbate existing heart disease or induce new heart disease, while significantly increasing the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes such as preterm birth, fetal growth restriction, and perinatal death. This article systematically analyzes the global burden of cardiac disease during pregnancy and its attributable proportion in maternal mortality, aiming to clarify the serious impact of cardiac disease during pregnancy on maternal health, and to deeply explore factors affecting its mortality rate and prevention strategies, providing evidence-based support for the development of interventions to reduce maternal mortality related to cardiac disease during pregnancy.
