Current Status and Influencing Factors of Compassion Fatigue among ICU Nurses in a Hospital in Guiyang City
Abstract:Objective To understand the current status of compassion fatigue among intensive care unit (ICU) nurses in a hospital in Guiyang City and its influencing factors, so as to provide reference for further preventive measures. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted on 120 ICU nurses in a hospital in Guiyang City, and one-way ANOVA was used for analysis. Results The scores of ICU nurses with different characteristics were all above 2.5 points, and the scores of compassion fatigue were highest in terms of income and educational level. 66.09% (76/115) of ICU nurses showed compassion fatigue, with an overall score of (2.79±0.19) points. There was a statistically significant difference in the dimension of 'loss of morale' of compassion fatigue among ICU nurses with different incomes (P=0.038); there was also a statistically significant difference in the dimension of 'emotional detachment' of compassion fatigue among ICU nurses with different educational levels (P=0.016). Conclusion There is compassion fatigue among ICU nurses in a hospital in Guiyang City, but the degree is relatively mild. Managers should take intervention measures targeting income and educational level to prevent the worsening of compassion fatigue among ICU nurses.
